Rose Quartz forms in pegmatites and hydrothermal veins where silicon dioxide crystallizes with trace amounts of titanium, iron, or manganese that create the pink color. It typically forms in massive deposits rather than well-formed crystals.

Major deposits: Brazil (largest producer and highest quality), Madagascar, India, South Africa, USA (South Dakota), Namibia, and Mozambique.

Brazilian Rose Quartz is prized for its deep, translucent pink color, while Madagascar produces specimens with exceptional clarity and star formations (asterism).

Rose Quartz Through History

Rose Quartz has been used since 7000 BC in Mesopotamia, and the Assyrians were among the first to craft it into jewelry around 800-600 BC. Ancient Egyptians believed Rose Quartz could prevent aging and used it in facial masks, while Romans and Greeks used it as a powerful love token and seal of ownership.

According to Greek mythology, Rose Quartz was created when Aphrodite's blood mixed with the white quartz as she rushed to save Adonis, staining it pink forever. In the Middle Ages, medical practitioners used Rose Quartz in healing potions.
