Caring for Your Amethyst
- Cleansing: Water-safe. Cleanse with running water, sound bowls, sage smoke, or moonlight.
- Charging: Moonlight preferred — prolonged direct sunlight will fade the purple colour. Full moon charging is especially powerful.
- Storage: Durable at Mohs 7, but store separately from harder stones to prevent scratching.
- Note: Heat-sensitive — avoid extreme temperature changes.

Amethyst Through History
Amethyst has been treasured since ancient times. The name comes from the Greek 'amethystos' meaning 'not intoxicated' — ancient Greeks believed it prevented drunkenness and carved drinking vessels from it.
Ancient Egyptians used Amethyst in jewellery and amulets. It was one of the twelve stones in the breastplate of the High Priest of Israel. Medieval European soldiers wore it for protection in battle, and it adorned the crowns and rings of royalty and clergy, symbolising piety and celibacy.
Leonardo da Vinci wrote that Amethyst quickens intelligence and gets rid of evil thoughts. Today it remains one of the most popular crystals for meditation, spiritual development, and creating peaceful environments.
