Where Lepidolite is Found
Lepidolite forms in lithium-rich granite pegmatites, often alongside other lithium minerals like tourmaline and spodumene. It typically occurs in layered, scaly masses due to its mica structure.
Major deposits: Brazil (Minas Gerais), Madagascar, USA (California, Maine), Russia, Canada, Zimbabwe, and Afghanistan.
Brazilian Lepidolite is prized for its deep lilac color and often contains pink tourmaline inclusions. Madagascar produces specimens with exceptional sparkle and layering.

Lepidolite was first discovered in the 18th century and was initially called 'lilalite' due to its lilac color. The name comes from the Greek word 'lepidos' meaning scale, referring to its scaly appearance.
In the 19th century, Lepidolite became an important source of lithium for industrial and medical applications. The discovery of lithium's mood-stabilizing properties in the 1940s gave new significance to this stone's calming reputation.
