Red Zircon

About Red Zircon

Red Zircon is one of the most ancient and energetically powerful gemstones on Earth — zircon crystals have been dated to over 4.4 billion years old, making them the oldest minerals ever found on our planet. Red Zircon displays a rich spectrum of colours from orange-red to deep crimson, with a brilliance and fire that rivals diamond. Often confused with cubic zirconia (a synthetic material), natural zircon is a completely different and far more energetically significant stone, carrying the deep, primal energy of the Earth itself.

Red Zircon Through History

Zircon has been prized since antiquity, mentioned in ancient Hindu texts as one of the stones in the Kalpa Tree — a symbolic offering to the gods. In medieval Europe it was believed to promote sleep, drive away evil spirits, and bring prosperity. Its name is thought to derive from the Persian zargun, meaning gold-coloured, though zircon occurs in a full spectrum of colours.
